Ok, so I was helping a friend this weekend with some web browsing problems, IE6, spyware, hijacked homepage and unwanted reappearing porn bookmarks, and the whole time I was working on his machine, IE was driving me nuts. I am a *huge* fan of the Ctrl + Enter shortcut to add "http://www/" and ".com" into the address bar for me. His was not working, so I figured I'd just go into tools, options and reset default settings, but no luck. I finally found it under Tools\Options\Advanced-Under Browsing, by checking the inline AutoComplete box. Just out of curiosity, I tried resetting the defaults, and it *unchecked* that on me. Hmmm, ctrl + enter has always worked on exery pc I've ever used, how is that the case when it's not the *default* setting?
I know the *real* answer to this is go download Firefox, but for now there are still tons of people who don't use FF and they still ask us to help them with their computers from time to time. There are also tons of companies who have declared IE the one browser to rule them all.
One more browsing shortcut sidenote: The Ctrl + Enter also works in FF, adding the http://www/. and the .com to what you type in the address bar, but wait, there's more, if you order within the next fifteen minutes, Firefox will also add the http://www/. and .net to the entry if you use Shift + Enter. How is that done in IE? Oh wait, it *can't* be done in IE, nevermind.
